The Integrated U.S. Marine Corps baseball team
The Integrated U.S. Marine Corps baseball team at Montfort Point, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, 1943.
The U.S. Marine Corps began enlisting black volunteers on June 1, 1942 and the first class trained at Camp Lejeune's Montfort Point.
The camp's sports program and its baseball league were especially helpful in easing racial tensions, as black enlistees and white non-commissioned officers played on the same teams.
