Cardinals pitcher Dizzy Dean throws a three-hit shutout for a 3-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Dodgers. In the nightcap, Dizzy's brother, Paul Dean, throws a no-hitter.
June 15, 1938
In the first major league night game played somewhere other than Cincinnati, Red pitcher Johnny Vander Meer tosses his second consecutive no-hitter, a 6-0 blanking of the Dodgers despite eight walks. Four days earlier Vander Meer had shut down the Boston Bees 3-0.
April 15, 1947
Jackie Robinson start at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking baseball's color barrier. Robinson goes hit-less in the Dodgers' 5-3 win.
October 3, 1947
Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens is working on a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth inning when Dodger's pinch hitter Cookie Lavagetto drives a two-run double to the left in Brooklyn's 3-2 win in Game 4 of the World Series.
October 5, 1941
The Dodgers are leading 4-3 and are one out away from tying the World Series at two games apiece, but Brookyln catcher Mickey Owen can't hold onto the third strike from Hugh Casey, allowing Yankee Tommy Henrich to reach first base. New York then goes on to score four runs and take the game 7-4.
