Murray Olderman: "A Rare Double Threat"

Murray Olderman

An ink and blue pencil over graphite under drawing of Roy Campanella, catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers by Murray Olderman. 1957.

These were the glory days of illustrators, cartoonists and artist. Just look at old magazine covers from this era.

But Murray Olderman was a pro. As described in his New York Times obituary, he was both a writer and an artist.

"Murray Olderman, who chronicled the sports world as what he called a 'rare double threat,' turning out nationally syndicated cartoons while also writing features and columns in a career of more than 60 years, died on Wednesday in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was 98."
