Harvard vs. Yale in 1887

Louis Prang

Boston-based Louis Prang & Company was the premier commercial color art-print firm in America during the latter half of the nineteenth century, producing original fine art designs as well as reproductions after paintings by Winslow Homer and others.

Traditional Ivy League rivals Harvard and Yale are shown here in chromolithograph created using a proprietary Prang process called aquarelle, the French word for watercolor. The method produced large and affordable print editions with the sophisticated look of original works of art.
