Eddie Cicotte: Bean Ball Signals the Fix

Eddie Cicotte

Eddie Cicotte led the American league in wins in 1919, the year he helped the Sox throw the World Series. The pitcher accepted $10,000 in cash from gamblers the night before the series began, and in the first inning he beaned Cincinnati's Morrie Rath as a signal the fix was on. The White Sox fell to the underdog Red five games to three in the best-of-the-nine contest.
