Advertisements for baseball equipment and uniforms appeared in a variety of publications, including sporting magazines, scorecard books, rule books and Beadle's dime novels.

IN the late nineteenth century, every major American city boasted at least one ball-and-bat company. Wright & Ditson and Peck & Snyder were among New York's prominent manufacturers until Spalding bought out both firms and several others in the 1890s.
