Baseball Comics was created by Will Eisner and originally published in 1949 and then republished again in 1991 by Kitchen Sink Press out of Princeton, Wisconsin.

Editor Dave Schreiner wrote an introduction to the reprinted issue and explained the history of the comic book:

"Rube Rooky was created to be in the same vein as Ham Fisher's Joe Palooka," Eisner recalled. "Rube was a big, dumb or naive kid who comes out of nowhere and becomes a champion."
