The book, Baseball ABC, was published by McLoughlin Brothers of New York in 1885. This brightly decorative, colorfully illustrated book taught children the alphabet using simple rhymes and letters illuminated with pastoral baseball scenes.
"F stands for FOUL on which Arthur goes out."
"G stands for GO--How the merry boys shout!"
What is interesting is the kid that is marking the base lines with what appears to be a bucket of whitewash. And the other kids sitting around watching him, like he got fooled with the Tom Sawyer/Ben Harper trick.
