Babe Ruth Makes a Comeback
The 1926 New York Yankees
After an illness brought on by his off-field antics and Jazz Age indulgences marred Ruth's 1925 season, the 1926 Yankees benefited from the Bambino's renewed dedication to fitness. The team captured the American League pennant before losing in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. But Ruth (back row, center) was just warming up--the storied 1927 was in the offing. With teammate Lou Gehrig, they became the heart of the Yankees' "Murderer's Row" line-up and led New York to the 1927 World Series Title.
